Babylon’s Sins

A Listing

Babylon destroyed Jerusalem and its last king, the wicked Zedekiah. Yet, Babylon was itself later to be destroyed, and Israel is to be delivered. Babylon’s sins are listed (Jeremiah 50‑51).

  1. Practiced idolatry (50:2)
  2. Pretending they are innocent because Judah had sinned (50:7)
  3. Are jubilant destroyers (50:11)
  4. Sinned against Jehovah (50:14)
  5. Has “broken [Israel’s] bones” (50:17)
  6. Has been “proud against Jehovah” (50:29)
  7. Refused to let sons of Israel and Judah go (50:33)
  8. Boasted (50:36)
  9. Made graven images and crazed over idols (50:38)
  10. Made all the earth drunken (51:7)
  11. Were covetous greedy
  12. Made golden images (51:17)
  13. Has done evil in Zion (51:24)
  14. Has destroyed all the earth (51:25)
  15. Has destroyed Jerusalem (51:34‑35)
  16. Has slain [many of] Israel (51:49)

Therefore, the Lord’s people are called to come out of Babylon (Jeremiah 50:8, 51:6, 45) at the time of harvest (Jeremiah 51:33). In the Gospel Age, this period of the call begins with Christ’s return (Revelation 18:1‑5).
