The Seasons of Life
September / October 2025
Volume 107, Number 5
Inspired by nature’s seasons as a metaphor, this issue explores the profound lessons of the development of the New Creature, from spirit begettal to spiritual maturity.
We asked the authors to highlight themes of obedience, sacrifice, justice, mercy, and humility in developing the fruit and graces of the holy Spirit. The articles reveal the inspirational journey of the Christian traveler to learn, grow, teach, and bless the sin-sick world of mankind, bringing them back to the image of God.
Begettal of the New Creature emphasizes that true blessings come from delighting in God’s law, choosing the narrow path of self-sacrifice over sin’s allurements. Consecration leads to justification, spiritual growth, and eternal life. Believers face spiritual warfare but gain strength through reliance on God, preparing them for the Christian journey of service and honor to Him.
Infants in Christ spotlights life’s brevity and the importance of spiritual growth. As human infants start out helpless but grow through nourishment and care, new Christians, “infants in Christ,” are begotten by God’s Spirit and nourished by His Word. They learn foundation truths, embrace joy, and overcome through faith and confidence in God.
Adolescence in Christ mirrors wheat cultivation, a vital period for spiritual growth. Mentors must nurture young believers with God’s Word, prayer, and opportunities for service, guarding them against worldly influences. Biblical examples, such as Samuel, David, and Timothy, demonstrate that early guidance fosters faith, growing adolescents into fruitful Christians, to glorify God.
Young Adult. Young adult Christians are urged to use their skills and strength wisely, like the biblical figures of Joseph and Timothy. This involves actively serving God and others, as exemplified by Rebekah. It emphasizes avoiding pride, handling differences with grace, and prioritizing heavenly treasures over earthly ones, highlighting that true fulfillment comes from Christ-like conduct.
Autumn of the New Creation describes spiritual maturing. The New Creature is prepared by experience and God’s Word, for a spiritual birth. This season features service, humble reflection, and cultivating fruit of the Spirit — trusting God’s timing and purpose.
Flourishing in God’s Courts is a time for sharing God’s goodness. Mature ones mentor youth, offering wisdom from tested faith. Joseph, Moses, and Daniel demonstrate how integrity, forgiveness, and unwavering trust, even in old age, can leave a powerful legacy of faith.
God was patient with His ancient people as they grew through seasons of life. What mistakes did they make? May we extend those lessons to our spiritual walk? We offer the following battle-tested examples and pray that your faith will be strengthened.
