In the Beginning – Voice of the Prophets
The lives of Old Testament prophets were marked with an unwavering devotion to God. Often called to stand alone against unbelief, their message inevitably brought hardship and personal sacrifice. Their lives illustrate what is pleasing to God and what is not. For spiritual Israel then, this study is important and fruitful. In His wisdom, God recognized the need to allow evil for a time so that good may eventually triumph. Read more…
Lessons from the Life of Jacob – A Man of Faith
Jacob, the son of Isaac and a Biblical patriarch, can also be considered a prophet. He received direct messages from God, including his dream of a ladder to heaven. At the end of his life he gathered his sons to his deathbed to tell them “what shall befall you in the last days” (Genesis 49:1), describing the long-term providence for the tribes of Israel, especially revealing the Messianic line through his son Judah (Genesis 49:10). The Book of Amos: Privilege Brings Responsibility – Warnings to Israel and Judah
Amos was one of the “minor prophets” of the Old Testament. He was called to service during the reign of Judah’s King Uzziah and Israel’s King Jeroboam (Amos 1:1). Although Uzziah “did right in the sight of the LORD” (2 Kings 15:3) and Jeroboam did “evil in the sight of the LORD” (2 Kings 14:24), Amos delivered God’s warnings and condemnations to both nations. God, through Amos, also issued warnings to many of the surrounding nations. Both the life of Amos and his words to the nations offer lessons for God’s followers today on faithfulness, the dangers of complacency, and a reminder of His plan for complete restoration. Read more…

Isaiah: A Prophet of Judgement and Hope – The First of Four Major Prophets
Before Isaiah spoke to kings, before he warned nations, and before he penned some of the most profound Messianic prophecies, he stood silent before the holiness of God. “In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up” (Isaiah 6:1). Read more…

Yet God assured him that his age and inexperience were no obstacle. He was ordained not only as a prophet to Israel but also to the nations.
“See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant” (Jeremiah 1:10). Read more…
